This course allows students the opportunities to discover, analyze, and create methods of understanding the social, emotional, and physical development of a infant through adolescence. Students will:
- Learn the many different theories and theorists that have had significant impact on the field.
- Study the nine months of pregnancy, as well as the multiple birthing options.
- Delve into the development of an infant, their needs and how to take care of them.
- Take home a Real Care Baby to simulate the responsibility of taking care of a child.
- Learn about nutrition and be aware of what pregnant women should be eating during each trimester, as well as how a child's nutritional needs develop over a lifetime.
- Have the opportunity to discover careers that are associated with childcare.
Pacific NW College Dual Credit (aka- Tech Prep) College Connections Program:
This course is Pacific NW College Credit https://www.pnwcollegecredit.org/ approved and articulated. Students who demonstrate proficiency of the college course competencies with a B or better grade may be eligible to earn college credit through the Pacific NW College Credit (Tech Prep) program. During this semester course all of the college competencies will be covered in or out of class. Students will need to pass the CPR/AED certification skills test during class, in the First Aid/CPR Unit. Students must register online using the state wide enrollment and reporting system https://www.ctesers.org (Use Chrome or Firefox) and also are required to pay a non-refundable $46 annual consortium fee to earn college credit through the Tech Prep College Connections program https://forms.bellevuecollege.edu/pci/other/pnwcc/
